1. Introduction
-Hanoch Piven is an artist who creates portraits out of objects
-Look at some examples of Piven's artwork
-Explain that on day 1, students will paint a colorful background using tempera paint and on day 2, they will create the face
-Background can use shapes, lines, or patterns, but should cover the whole surface.
2. Students paint with liquid tempera
Day 2
3. Demonstrate gluing different types of objects and show choices
4. Students choose, arrange, and glue objects to form a face.

This is a good way to use up craft supply donations or random leftover supplies.
I've used this with Kindergarten and 1st grade but think any early elementary grade would enjoy it.
