Foam Core Name Sculptures

This is the first lesson in a series of lessons where students will use the letters of their names to create 3-d sculptures.

THE PLAN
5 sessions; 55 minutes per session

The students will be able to:
1. Examine the way text is used in their every day life
2. Create a balanced dimensional sculpture using the letters of their name.
3. Apply a chosen design to their letters.

1. Foam core boards
2. markers
3. pencils
4. hot glue guns
5. glue
6. some kind of base
7. exacto knives
8. self-healing mats

1. students will create at least three brainstorming sketches of each of the letters of their name.
2. they will choose which of the designs they like the best and will transfer that drawing to the foam core.
3. they will use the exacto knives to cut out the letters from the foam core.
4. they will use the markers to decorate the letters
5. they will assemble their letters into a final name sculpture.
