1. Teach 2 point perspective.
-I use a variety of strategies when teaching perspective basics. Essentially, I spend about 3 days making generic buildings, letters, details, and complex buildings. Lots of review and collaborative learning exercises. If you take the time on the front end the results will be AMAZING!

2.Seven Space Clues
-Teach the students how to create illusionary space. The clues that I use are;
(1) Model (2)Atmospheric Perspective (3) Diminishing Size (4) Perspective (5) Proportion (6) Overlapping (7) Texture/Detail.
I usually draw an example each using a doc camera. The students take "notes" along with the demo.

3. Create a rough draft.
Show the students examples of prior work. Give the objectives for the lesson, and have the students a small sheet of paper to draw their roughs. This is a great opportunity for formative assessment.

4. Once the rough draft has been okayed by you, allow them to start on the final copy paper.

5. One day after a majority of students have started their final copy, it is time to review color pencils and Atmospheric Perspective.

I usually make a quick worksheet so that I can assess the student's understanding of these concepts.

6. Review, review, review. Each day you must review the skills and concepts needed to be successful. Keep thinking about assessment. Who needs the most help? What is the best way you can assist them?

I have several videos that I make available on my schools districts Learning Management System (My Big Campus). These videos work well for kids who missed classes, or if they need to review the process. It took a lot of time to compile the resources, but it really helps!
