News Paper Fashion Show

Students in high school will study the history of costumes and fashion, do concept drawings, and create a design in a group to then make into a complete outfit out of newspaper and tape. A fashion show will be the final product.

Sometimes after a painting lesson, my students used way too much paint. It doesn't matter how much I tell them to pour a little at a time, many of them still put too much on a palette. Scraping all the extra paint back into containers is time consuming and often results in just dried, unused paint. This lesson takes that unused paint and utilizes it into an acrylic pour that can be used as decoration, or even an art fundraiser for the class.

We then view and analyze examples of her artwork and the students create their own version of a painting with "big eyes."

Students in Elementary school learned about the artist George Rodrigue and his famous "blue dog" paintings. They then learned how to gently sketch out a creative dog portrait, with a few fun accessories, paint it in with colors of their choice, and outline it with a strong, black line.

For example, instead of Alice in Wonderland being a Victorian fantasy world, they are all vampires. Or maybe Snow White is a steam punk warrior? To help students learn about basic contour lines and drawing what they see, students will remove one shoe and practice drawing it larger than it is in real life. They will then add regular objects from their bags or the room to create a design of overlapping shapes and basic lines. Once drawn with pencil, it will be outlined in ink.
